A TASTE OF SOMETHING NEW AT WILDFLOWERS CORKS & BREWS
TAYLOR — Lisa Cromwell knew the moment she walked into the space at 108 E. Second St. that she had found exactly the place she was looking for to start her new wine bar, Wildflower Corks & Brews.
“I’ve always wanted a wine bar. They were popping up everywhere and I thought, ‘I could do better,’” Cromwell said. “So when I was looking for a building this one was open and it has a back patio and the lighting and the bar was already here –– I literally just stepped into my dream so I had to do it.”
Cromwell celebrated the grand opening of Wildflower Corks & Brews on March 8. The bar offers beers, seltzers, wine cocktails and light food items such as charcuterie boards and cheese plates, but the hand-selected wines are the stars of the menu.
“I’m bringing in wines that no one else has,” she said.
On social media, she invites patrons to, “Come join us for some Liquid Therapy.”
The entrepreneur, who owned several businesses in California, came to Taylor in 2012 to be with family. Now she feels right at home.
She and a tasting team visited vineyards and distributors looking for wines that had exceptional flavor and could be unique to Wildflower. She honors customers’ requests for specific vintages, but most wines she carries will always be locally exclusive to her bar.
“You just tell us what you want based on your tastes, tell us what you would like to drink and we will give you suggestions because we’ve tasted all of them, and we know the stories behind them,” Cromwell said.
She chose the name Wildflower to reflect her personality.
“I love the name. I am a wildflower,” she said.
Her goal is for everyone to relax, have fun and enjoy life and each other. The bar has a full schedule of games and entertainment, as well as a pool table and a darts machine.
Because Wildflower serves food, only service dogs are allowed indoors but companion dogs are allowed on the enclosed back patio if a customer enters through the rear gate.
Dogs are close to Cromwell’s heart, and she hopes to be able to hold promotions at the bar to benefit two of her biggest causes: animal shelters and food pantries.
Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, noon to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
