CURIOS FOR CURIOUS MINDS
New store offers holistic health, local art
TAYLOR — A entrepreneur is hoping patrons will be over the moon with her new downtown store offering a space for creativity, spiritual growth, connection and clothes that are anything but “fast fashion.”
Silver Moon Curios, 120 W. Second St., Unit A, opened Sept. 20 to hundreds of new customers waiting in line to come in and browse, where they found found shelves lined with natural-fiber clothing, hand-crafted jewelry and other locally made items.
“We come from a spiritual route. Everything we’re doing here is natural healing, love and light, and just trying to help ourselves,” said owner Kandy Mitchell. “Silver Moon Curios was born from me just trying to find like-minded women who are in the healing space and who are looking for ways to improve their lives using natural elements.”
Mitchell immigrated from England 14 years ago, adding she had a hard time finding her place in America until she moved to Texas in 2021. She originally intended to locate digs in Taylor, but since Samsung Austin Semiconductor had announced about the same time it would be building in the city, there were no houses available.
Mitchell and her two children instead settled in Georgetown, where she opened the first Silver Moon Curios in 2022.
Many of her customers there hailed from Taylor, so when a spot opened up in downtown she jumped at the chance to debut a second store.
The Taylor shop also operates as a consignment space for local artists.
“There is a collective of artists in here which I think is a big part of the core of Taylor,” Mitchell said. “All local makers that create things like handmade candles, beautiful crystal jewelry, herbal tinctures and teas, that kind of thing. Then we also have the things we curate personally like the crystals and clothing.”
Silver Moon Curios carries women’s clothing Mitchell described as ethically sourced and made from natural fibers.
“We’re trying to turn our back on fast fashion and those cheap items that are made just for a part and end up in a landfill,” Mitchell said. “We really want to try and support our Earth and provide items people are going to cherish for a long time.”
Silver Moon also has a space for “sound baths,” a technique using resonance and the vibrations of different instruments to help a person achieve deep relaxation.
On Saturdays, local practitioners offer tarot card and astrology readings, and also Akashic Record reading (a type of past-life exploration).
The venture is a family affair. Mitchell’s daughter, Harlow, helps choose some of the inventory and creates most of the socialmedia content, while son Oliver maintains the website and the online stock.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
